e-tractions Develops Online Viral Marketing Campaign For Acclaimed History Channel "SAVE OUR HISTORY™ " Program
e-tractions' Game To Create Buzz Among Teachers About New "Frontier Homes"
e-tractions, the leading Internet Marketing Campaign Company, today announced that it has created an online viral marketing campaign for The History Channel designed to promote a television program centered on early American home styles. Titled "Frontier Homes Challenge," the game generates awareness about the program within a target audience of history teachers, and captures key player profile information to support future History Channel marketing campaigns.
e-tractions' Frontier Homes Challenge (www.historychannel.com/classroom/frontiergame) enables the Educational Initiatives department at The History Channel to engage history teachers from fifth grade through high school. The goal of Educational Initiatives is to build awareness of how The History Channel online and off line resources can encourage and support the teaching of history.
"We're delighted to work with The History Channel to stimulate awareness about its new programming," said e-tractions President and CEO, Michael Gauthier. "Creating a loyal following is one of our specialties, and accomplishing this goal with such a well-respected client, using a fun and thought-provoking format, is particularly gratifying for us."
The game is sent to a permissioned list of teachers and educators via an email containing an invitation to try and solve the Frontier Homes Challenge. By clicking on the link, teachers come to a launch page hosted by e-tractions that contains a game requiring knowledge of history, geography, logic and reasoning. The purpose is to make learning about the early American home fun and interesting and to advertise the related cable program, SAVE OUR HISTORY™: Frontier Homes. The game is easy for a teacher to start up and play, and is engaging enough to promote "pass along" to other teachers and colleagues.
"We believe that e-tractions will help The History Channel relate the game to our cable show, where teachers see how the topic of Frontier Homes can be used as a springboard for a broader discussion with their students about how people lived in these early American homes," said Libby O'Connell, Vice President Historical Alliances, Historian in Residence, The History Channel.
The object of the game is to match a selection of household objects to the appropriate period home. A list of 12 objects is shown and the player is asked to move three objects into each building's time capsule. The player's job is to use contextual knowledge about events surrounding that region and period to determine which objects belong with which home.
The game interface includes a utility to email the game to a friend or colleague. Also provided is a link to The History Channel Web site (http://www.historychannel.com/classroom) where teachers and educators may download relevant study guide materials.
